About the BCA
OBJECTIVES
As a registered charity, our objectives are:
- To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Barnes and Mortlake by fostering a sense of community in the neighbourhood.
- To advance social welfare.
- To promote the preservation, development and improvement of the character and amenities of the neighbourhood.
- To bring together the inhabitants, local authorities and other voluntary associations in a common effort, without distinction of race, sex, political, religious or other opinions.
We also run Rose House (our HQ at the pond end of the High Street) as a centre for our activities.
FUNDING
We are the only community association in the country that relies totally on its own funds and has no financial support from any council body.
We hold a variety of fund-raising events throughout the year, Barnes Fair being our most impressive venture. The Fair is held on the second Saturday in July and covers the whole of Barnes Green. In October we hold our famous Jumble Sale in Kitson Hall and in December we have a Late Night Shopping Evening when the local shops stay open late and a Christmassy welcome awaits everyone (including Father Christmas himself).
